🌿 Rooted Reflections: He Sees the Hidden Work

Edition No. 12

📖 Scripture:
"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin."
— Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)

Some days, obedience looks like showing up with no applause.

No one sees the way you juggle deadlines, answer messages, adjust your focus, tend to your family, or cook a full harvest meal between client builds and content strategy. There are days the thought “Is this even working?” sneaks in—not because you’re failing, but because you're giving it everything you’ve got.

And yep—some days you might feel like quitting. I’ve been there.

I’ve even “fired” myself once or twice… but you better believe I rehired myself the next morning with even more grit. 😂

That’s the beauty of this kind of work. It’s not weak. It’s deep. Root-deep.

Because God sees the hidden work.
He sees the persistence behind the posts.
He sees the loyalty to the dream when no one else is clapping.
He sees the faith it takes to plant seeds in dry ground and believe for rain.

This kind of obedience is root work—it goes deep before it ever reaches the surface.

Last week I was drawn back into the kitchen for a local rancher’s harvest meals—something I’ve done for years. I’ll be back at it off and on for several more weeks. So it’s been a week of balancing time, energy, and effort between the heat of the stove and the heart of Prairie Bloom Media. Some days I got it right. Some days I just kept going.

We celebrated Mom’s birthday on the 11th—93 years old and still vibrant, curious, helpful, and joyful. What a gift to have this time with her. I know without a doubt that these days we share will be some of my most treasured memories. They’re already tucked away in my heart.

It was a hot one last week—no rain, and the garden is definitely showing signs of stress. But the cucumbers… oh my. They are thriving! They’ve taken over the counters, the fridge, and our meals. My go-to snack right now is a big bowl of cucumbers, and I’m not mad about it. We’re finally getting a few more tomatoes too—praise! I live for my daily tomato sandwich.

It was a quiet week without Kendall here. We said more than once how much we missed him. He starts at a new school today—middle school. I’m praying over his year, his heart, and his confidence as he steps into this next chapter.

So what does any of that have to do with small beginnings?

Everything.

Because in the ordinary, sweaty, snack-filled, schedule-juggling, prayer-whispering weeks—we are sowing seeds. We are laying down roots in the middle of real life. And the beauty is this:

God rejoices at the beginning.
Not the polished product.
Not the platform.
Not the proof.
The start.

So if you're in a season of showing up quietly—behind the scenes, in the mess, or in the heat of the harvest—take heart. He’s not just watching. He’s celebrating.

💬 Journal Prompt:
Where are you being asked to obey without outcome right now? What “small beginning” can you celebrate today?

🙏 Prayer:
Lord, help me trust that You see the hidden places. Strengthen me in the work no one claps for. Let my roots grow deep in You, knowing that what begins small in Your hands is never wasted.
