93 Years, Baby Feet, and a Brand-New Water Heater
Last week felt like a whole chapter of life crammed into seven days.
This was Kendall's final week of the summer with us, which meant Papa Don took a couple of days off. They snuck in a round of golf, tackled some house projects, and Kendall kept right on with one of his regular summer contributions — mowing the yard. He’s been doing it all season, and let me tell you, it’s been a huge help. Oh how we are going to miss that boy...and everyone else will too!
And then, in perfect family fashion, the house started to fill. Mom came home from the hospital on Saturday — just in time for our lunch to celebrate her 93rd birthday. She lights up around her grands and great-grands, and oh, did they deliver. The house was alive with baby feet, toddler feet, and Kendall-sized feet running across the floors. Laughter bubbled up in every room. There were giggles, squeals, and little fingerprints smudged on the glass doors that I wish I could frame instead of clean.🖼️❣️
By late Saturday, Christopher’s crew was heading back to Missouri. By Sunday at noon, Cliff’s family was on their way to Texas. The house grew quiet in that way it does when the door shuts behind the last hug… but the echoes of laughter and the warmth of new memories still hung in the air.
Of course, real life doesn’t hit pause just because you’re floating on family joy. Somewhere in the middle of all this, the hot water heater decided to quit. So Sunday afternoon, my sister came over to hang out with Mom for her birthday, and we rolled right into “project mode.” We picked up the house, mopped floors, started laundry, and installed a brand new water heater — because around here, the fun is always followed by the work.
And as for this week? Well, it’s already shaping up to be another wild one. Whether it’s the media work picking up speed, more family fun, or me tossing in extra projects just to see if I can chase my own tail and catch it — stay tuned. Around here, the fun never really ends.
With Grace & Grit,
Lynda
